Hey Toddlers: Do Your Fucking Job
In my current role, I’m responsible for ensuring we have a viable, functional enterprise asset management system, the IT backbone that supports facility maintenance and operations across the institution I work at. Other organizations depend on us. They can’t do their jobs if we don’t do ours.
Now imagine it’s September and we’re planning next year’s priorities. I lay out what I think matters most: simplifying the engineering interface so equipment is easier to manage, tying system and reporting access together to reduce administrative burden — the kind of work that actually keeps the place running.
Then someone chimes in: “I’d really like to scan barcodes with tablets in the field”.
And I say, “That’s a great idea, but most of our customers ranked that fourth or fifth on the list, so it’ll have to wait until next year”.
Then that person throws a tantrum and says, “I’m not going to participate in your initiatives unless I get what I want”.
Now imagine that because of that one person’s tantrum, the entire operation stops. No progress. No updates. No maintenance. No forward motion — just dead air until they calm down.
That would be insane, right? Illogical. Inefficient. A complete waste of everyone’s fucking time.
And yet here we are, twenty-two days into a government shutdown because one party refuses to perform its constitutional duty unless it gets its way. They’re the minority party. They don’t have the votes. And yet they’ve decided to take their ball and go home rather than do the one damn job they were elected to do: fund the government.
I’m fucking tired of these whiny little cocksuckers in Congress acting like spoiled children whenever they don’t get their way. These are supposed to be the best problem-solvers in the country, the ones with the intelligence and integrity to navigate complex issues. Instead, they’ve reduced what should be intelligent discourse, with critical government functions hanging in the balance, into a teary-eyed exchange of toddler tantrum screams.
If I handled my job the way they handle theirs, I’d be fired. Hell, most of us would.
But they’ve built their own little ecosystem where failure is rewarded, accountability is optional, and critical government functions grind to a halt while they continue to get paid for doing absolutely nothing.
Hey toddlers: wake the fuck up.
Grow the fuck up.
Learn to eat a little crow and do your fucking job.
Or get the fuck out of the way so someone else can.
